Random thoughts.

I don’t have a specific topic to talk about today, but I am bored out of my mind and wanted to post something since it’s Thursday and I’m trying to stick to Thursdays to be my blogging day.
You know, going “caffeine free” ain’t easy. Diet Mountain Dew just doesn’t have the same purpose anymore, and Diet Pepsi just doesn’t taste right (I know, I know, it’s supposed to be the same, but I swear there is a difference). My favorite drink of all time that is caffeine free is A&W’s Diet Root Beer. I have loved this stuff since I was little. My family doesn’t know how I can drink the stuff, but I guess when you grow up with diabetes and have to learn to stomach a lot of nasty diet stuff, you learn what you like better.
And I know lots of you guys probably saw the episode of Supernanny about the diabetic kid, and lots of you had your own opinions of the show. Well, so do I. And a few of you have even wrote your own blog posts about it, some being Leighann, the MultiMindingMom and Lee Ann Thill from The Butter Compartment – both having excellent reviews of the episode. I understand that the mom is afraid because she saw her father die of diabetes-related complications at an early age, but it wasn’t explained whether or not he tried to take care of himself or not either, nor if that was the only thing that caused his death. Also, it seemed to me that even though they have been dealing with and treating Aiden for his
diabetes for the past eight months, they haven’t been introduced to the new ways of treating diabetics. It seems like she’s trying to, apart from dosing, keep him stuck on the old system (i.e., eating every single thing in front of you because it all counts towards your insulin). I could not believe that they actually made him sit for an hour to eat his MEAT that was left on his plate, all the while he had a good hour to an hour and a half pass before they gave him a shot for the CARBS that he ate! That should have been given after he ate the carbs. I’m sure his blood sugars are erratic if they are dosing him like this! Either they aren’t seeing an Endocrinologist/CDE, but rather a family physician, or the Endo/CDE that they are seeing isn’t up to date with the times. I really wish there were a way to contact them and show them other things they can do with their son besides the dinner plate stars, because that is not the answer to their problems.
Also, the highlight of my week came when my hubby, Erik, agreed to get me the white iPhone 3gS for Christmas. Well, almost. Technically, we have to order it since our local AT&T doesn’t keep those in stock, and I can’t actually upgrade until January, so we are purchasing it before Christmas to allow for the two week delivery estimate so I can get it as soon after January 1st as possible. Cool, huh? I feel like a giddy little teenager. I’m only going with the 16GB because I really don’t listen to a lot of music on my iPhone, and I usually weed through my music quite
often and keep the bulk of it on my computer. My problem is that I L-O-V-E apps! I am addicted to buying apps. I have an app for just about every interest in my life. Even ones that I know my bosses son likes so when he comes, he can play with my phone. I love games like SceneIt Twilight, Scrabble, iFarm, Skeeball, and my all time favorite, Solitaire. Oh, and the social networking apps like Facebook, SimplyTweet, and Y!Messenger are awesome! Not to mention, it’s the best “gotta take a picture right now” camera you can have. I remember my first digital camera was a 1.3MP Kodak camera, back when a 512MB card was HUGE. Not anymore. Looking at my current iPhone 3G, which has a 2MP lens, I have over 200 pictures on this baby. I can only imagine what I’ll do with the 3MP! Lots more room (16GB instead of 8GB ) for better pics of my baby nephew and great BG numbers to post to the “In The BG Zone” Flickr group! (Which, by the way, are you a member of that yet? It’s awesome. Totally uplifting if you are having a “WTFreak” time with you’re numbers!)
Aaaannd, did ya know it’s only 21 days ‘til Christmas anyway? Holy Crap! I am not a prep-shopper. I am a last minute shopper. Mainly because no body ever knows what they want until the week before, so that leaves me to shop the few days before. Otherwise, everyone would end up with
shirts or something generic. I’m not a creative person. One year I tried, but it didn’t work. Also, people now-a-days will just go get whatever it is they want instead of telling someone to get it for them for Christmas. That’s why I think gift cards were the best thing ever. They can use it towards what ever they really want. They can go the next day or wait a month if they want. My dad collects them from Lowes (Fathers Day, birthday, Christmas, anniversary) and puts them toward one big thing per year. Me? I LOVE to get iTunes gift cards! That’s what I ask for every year. I usually end up with about $50 - $65, which usually is quickly spent.
Since this has been a long enough post, and I have probably bored you out of your mind, I think I’ll stop my rambling here. Season’s greetings to all and happy shopping!

Love your post and thoughts on things. Solitare IS the best game ever. I've wasted many minutes playing Solitaire. Enjoy your new phone!
Woot! iPhone 3gs!!!
I KNOWW!! Isn't it awesome! Just went and ordered it today, so maybe we'll have it before Christmas. The lady at the AT&T store said I didn't have to wait until January to activate it either!
